ACE’s First Reaccreditation: Bon Secours St. Francis Health System's Cardiac Cath Lab Reaffirms Commitment to High Quality Standards
ACE awarded its first reaccreditation today to the cardiac catheterization laboratory and CathPCI program at Bon Secours St. Francis Health System in Greenville, South Carolina. It’s another first for a hospital already nationally recognized in 2011 for being the first to receive ACE accreditation.
Accreditation for Cardiovascular Excellence (ACE) Assists Pennsylvania on New Elective PCI Standards
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has determined that certain cardiac catheterization lab (CCL) facilities seeking a waiver from state regulation to provide elective PCI services, without onsite open heart surgery, must be accredited by a state department‐approved accreditation agency with standards at least equal to those of the Accreditation for Cardiovascular Excellence (ACE). ACE is the first organization to be recognized by the Commonwealth and has been leading the way by providing expert guidance to state regulatory departments on national standard criteria for the cardiac catheterization lab.

Rounding out a very successful year, Accreditation for Cardiovascular Excellence (ACE) reports they have reached record-breaking numbers of accreditation applications for cardiac cath labs in 2013. “Accreditation applications have more than doubled since 2012,” said Mary Heisler, RN, BA, ACE Executive Director. “More labs are realizing the importance of accountable metrics and know it’s time to get started on the quality journey with ACE.”

The Accreditation for Cardiovascular Excellence (ACE) received acclaim during the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) conference, October 27 – November 1, 2013 in San Francisco. Presenting on the importance of using and documenting Appropriate Use Criteria (AUC) to control costs and improve quality in the cardiac cath lab (CCL), Peter L. Duffy, M.D., FACC, FACP, FAHA, FSCAI, noted that "ACE accreditation is the pinnacle of CCL quality."

Newly accredited St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center, Syracuse N.Y., is the first hospital in New York and the second in the United States to accomplish accreditation in all three cardiovascular quality disciplines with the Accreditation for Cardiovascular Excellence (ACE): Diagnostic Cath, PCI and Carotid Artery Stenting (CAS), and is only one of two hospitals in New York State to achieve ACE accreditation distinction.
