Former SCAI President Assumes Post of ACE Treasurer

Washington, DC (PRWEB) November 18, 2015

Accreditation for Cardiovascular Excellence (ACE) today announced the appointment of Carl L. Tommaso, M.D., MSCAI, to the organization’s Board of Directors. Dr. Tommaso assumes the post of Treasurer, succeeding Charles E. Chambers, M.D., MSCAI, who was recently appointed Board Chair of ACE.

Dr. Tommaso is Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Skokie (IL) Hospital, part of the Northshore University Health system. He is also an Associate Professor of Medicine at Rush Medical College in Chicago. Previously, he was Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, and Chief of the Division of Cardiology at Lakeside Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Chicago. Dr. Tommaso served as President of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) from 2000-2001. A graduate of Tufts University and New York Medical College, Dr. Tommaso completed his medical residency and acted as Chief Medical Resident at Roger Williams General Hospital, part of the Brown University Program in Medicine in Providence, RI. He also completed a cardiology fellowship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Dr. Tommaso has more than 30 years’ experience in interventional cardiology and is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology. He currently serves on several guidelines writing committees of the American College of Cardiology (ACC), the American Heart Association (AHA), and SCAI, including the Percutaneous Valve Disease, STEMI, and Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory Standards writing committees.

“Dr. Tommaso will be an excellent addition to the ACE Board, as he brings a wealth of knowledge on a range of issues affecting the practice of interventional cardiology,” commented Dr. Chambers, Professor of Medicine and Radiology at Penn State University, Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories at MS Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, PA, and Immediate Past President of SCAI. “I am confident that, in his role as Treasurer, Dr. Tommaso will serve ACE with distinction by providing sound fiscal guidance and by helping us maintain the highest quality standards for cardiovascular and endovascular care.”
