Ninth Pennsylvania PCI Program Achieves ACE Accreditation; ACE Publishes New Accreditation Standards for Carotid Artery Stenting

Accreditation for Cardiovascular Excellence (ACE) sets the quality standard for interventional cardiology

Washington, DC (PRWEB) January 29, 2015

ACE is proud to announce the ninth Pennsylvania cardiac catheterization laboratory to complete the rigorous accreditation process for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) services. Grand View Health (GVH) in Sellersville, PA, joins eight other Pennsylvania hospitals partnering with ACE to expand their PCI services under new state regulations.

Under regulations established last year, Pennsylvania PCI programs wishing to perform elective PCI without onsite open-heart surgery must seek exemption and achieve accreditation by a state-approved organization with quality standards at least as high as those of ACE. As the first accrediting body to be recognized by the Commonwealth, ACE has been providing expert guidance to state regulatory departments on best practices in the cardiac catheterization lab.

To date, more than half of Pennsylvania PCI facilities eligible for the exception have partnered with ACE. The first eight PA facilities to achieve ACE accreditation under the Commonwealth’s exemption rules include Armstrong County Memorial Hospital in Kittanning; Chambersburg Hospital in Chambersburg; Holy Redeemer Hospital in Meadowbrook; Meadville Medical Center in Meadville; Monongahela Valley Hospital in Monongahela; Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College; University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) East in Pittsburgh; and UPMC McKeesport in McKeesport. The next step is for the Commonwealth exceptions committee to provide approval for each accredited facility.

In other news, ACE has published revised accreditation standards for carotid artery stenting (CAS) services. The ACE CAS accreditation program is designed to ensure that accredited facilities deliver the highest quality care in CAS. The updated 2015 ACE CAS standards reflect the current evidence-based recommendations and nationally accepted guidelines on CAS.
