Accreditation for Cardiovascular Excellence (ACE) accelerates momentum with new accreditations and reaccreditations

A continued commitment to excellence is sweeping through cardiac catheterization laboratories. The cardiac catheterization laboratory and angioplasty/stenting program at Excela Health, in Greensburg, Pennsylvania has just been reaccredited by ACE.
"ACE standards are even more rigorous than when we initially certified,” said Howard P. Grill, MD, FACC, medical director of Excela Health’s cardiac catheterization laboratory. “We have continued to modify our practices and adapt to these stringent guidelines to ensure we meet the quality measures ACE sets forth. Excela Health has been a standard-bearer for cardiovascular excellence since 2012, when it became the first health system in Pennsylvania to achieve initial ACE accreditation, and is now the first cardiac catheterization laboratory in the state to be reaccredited.

Two other ACE-accredited facilities have also been recognized for their commitment to cardiovascular quality. Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas, and Emory University Hospital Midtown in Atlanta, Georgia, have been named among the nation’s 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals by Truven Health Analytics.
According to Truven Health, the 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals deliver better patient outcomes while operating more efficiently than other high-volume hospitals. Compared with other facilities, the 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals demonstrate higher inhospital survival rates for myocardial infarction (MI) and heart failure (HF), lower complication rates, lower readmission rates for MI and HF, shorter lengths of stay, and lower costs per patient case.
The 2015 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals study shows that if all facilities in the U.S. performed at the level of quality of Baylor Scott & White, Emory, and the other 2015 Top 50 winners:
- Nearly 9,500 additional patient lives could be saved
- Nearly 3,000 fewer bypass and angioplasty patients would experience complications
- More than $1.1 billion in costs could be saved
