First for New York State: St. Peter’s Hospital Earns

Accreditation from ACE for Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI)

St. Peter’s Hospital is the first hospital in New York state to receive accreditation for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) by ACE (Accreditation for Cardiovascular Excellence).

“The commitment to excellence that we all share at St. Peter’s Hospital is the key to achieving this accreditation,” said Ann Errichetti, MD, MBA, chief executive officer of St. Peter’s Hospital. “It recognizes the work of many individuals working together as part of the St. Peter’s Hospital team, and demonstrates that our patient outcomes meet or exceed those of comparable facilities across the country and follow evidence-based best practices.”

St. Peter’s Cardiac Catheterization Lab underwent the voluntary and rigorous ACE process to demonstrate an exceptional commitment to providing the best possible care to patients.

The in-depth, independent review examines quality-assurance processes, facility equipment, personnel, and clinical outcomes information. All data collected is measured against nationally accepted standards for the highest-quality cardiovascular care.

ACE is an organization dedicated to ensuring adherence to the highest quality standards for cardiovascular and endovascular care. ACEwas founded by the leadership of The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, and is sponsored by the American College of Cardiology.

“St. Peter’s Hospital has a legacy of providing high-quality cardiac care for our community,” said Michael J. Martinelli, MD, FACC, FSCAI, division chief of Cardiology. “This accreditation, with its vigorous national review process, provides clear evidence that the culture of excellence in cardiac care continues in the efforts of the cardiac catheterization team at St. Peter’s Hospital today.”

Eric Roccario, MD, FACC, FSCAI, medical director of St. Peter’s Hospital Cardiac Catheterization Lab, said, “We began this in-depth accreditation process because we believed that the procedures and outcomes we provide are among the best in this country. I am proud of the work that our team does each and every day on behalf of our patients. I am even prouder that this independent accreditation process provided clear validation that the compassionate care we provide meets or exceeds national standards.”

“The ACE accreditation distinguishes our cardiac catheterization lab,” said Dorothy M Urschel MS, ACNP-C, MBA, NEA-BC, Cardiac & Vascular Service Line Director for St. Peter’s Health Partners.  “Achieving this recognition is a tribute to all those involved with our cardiovascular services. This rigorous review and outstanding recognition of our cardiac catheterization services reflects to all those we serve how deeply committed we are to quality patient care and integrity in an environment that puts patients first."

St. Peter’s Cardiac Catheterization Lab is part of the nationally recognized St. Peter’s Cardiac & Vascular Center. St. Peter’s has been designated as a Top 100 Cardiovascular Hospital for 10 of the last 12 years. St. Peter’s is the only hospital in New York state and the northeastern United States to earn this honor for 10 years, and one of only five hospitals nationwide to receive the distinction 10 or more years. The Cardiac & Vascular Center has also been named a Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care because of its consistent commitment to quality care, resulting in better overall outcomes for cardiac patients.

St. Peter’s facilities are among the nation’s most advanced clinical environments for care of patients with complex heart and vascular disease. St. Peter’s has been named Best Hospital in the Capital Region seven years in a row, according to reader surveys by the Times Union newspaper; and Most Preferred Hospital in the Tech Valley region, according to Scarborough Research.
