Cath Lab Digest Guest Article Cites ACE As a Resource for Ensuring Cardiac Cath Lab Quality

ACE Director Sheree Schroeder Authors a New Article: Defining Quality in the Cardiac Cath Lab

Washington, DC (PRWEB) March 11, 2014

Accreditation for Cardiovascular Excellence (ACE) is pleased to announce that Sheree Schroeder, MSN, RN, RDCS, FASE, Director, Peer Review Programs has authored a thought provoking article titled: Defining Quality in the Cardiac Cath Lab. The article appeared in the March, 2014 edition of CLD. In it, Sheree states that “Cardiac cath labs dedicated to meeting a broad range of quality expectations of clinicians, administrators, payers, cath lab team members, and patients and their families can achieve that goal with an ACE Quality Review." Ms. Schroeder explains that although each of these groups defines quality differently, successful outcomes satisfy everyone’s expectations. And, successful outcomes are the result of a program’s “…ongoing mechanism for valid and continuous peer review of its quality and outcomes. Many organizations collect the data,” Sheree explains, “but are they verifying and using their data to improve their cardiovascular services?”

Proactive peer review can ensure quality and help cath labs identify opportunities for improvement. Organizational and personal risk can be mitigated by proactively performing peer review to identify opportunities to ensure optimal outcomes. Internal peer review processes are critical; however, external validation may complement these processes. The most objective method for validating a peer review program is to partner with an organization that includes cardiology expertise such as the ACE Quality Review program.

ACE Quality Review eliminates bias and validates quality of invasive cardiovascular patient services. ACE cardiovascular external review experts recommend a process that is performed, discussed and implemented at all levels and amongst all disciplines within the cardiovascular program.
